- W4300474724 abstract "The field of agriculture experienced a boost in crop productivity along with crop protection from a vast variety of insects and pests in the era of the green revolution. But continuous use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides brings forth certain adverse health and environmental effects which are difficult to control. It is thus of vital importance to adopt strategies that can boost crop productivity without exhibiting any negative impact on the environment. In the current situation, the solid biofuels such as biochar (a carbon-rich substance) have been proven to be a substantial technology that can improve the soil characteristics as well as cut down the greenhouse gas emissions. The biochar properties are dependent upon the feedstock used for biochar production and also on the conditions employed for the thermochemical conversion of biomass to biochar. In the present chapter, organic waste has been evaluated as a possible feedstock for the production of biochar. In this context, various pyrolysis conditions for optimized biochar production from organic waste, factors controlling biochar yield, and properties accompanied by the implementation of biochar in various fields, viz., environmental, agricultural, wastewater treatment, etc., have been discussed." @default.
