- W4300979406 abstract "This chapter considers how agential realism can be used to re-imagine social work practice and scholarship. Barad’s notion of agential realism is useful for reconfiguring social work, first because it moves beyond tired old debates regarding agency and structure, social constructivism vs realism, idealism and materialism, focusing instead on entanglements and relationality. Second, in its use of a diffractive methodology, it moves beyond both reflection and critique, and provides affirmative ways of engaging with ideas, theories and texts, reading them through each other, which has the potential to move to new insights. Furthermore, temporal diffraction gives us the ability to understand how the thick now is always already entangled with the past and the future. Third, agential realism gives us the ability to understand how we are part of the world and the phenomena we seek to understand and therefore cannot take a view of the world from a distance." @default.
