- W4301398436 abstract "The purpose of this study is to introduce discussions in the academic fields of island archaeology and conduct an exploratory review of what can be said in relation to the Korean Bronze Age.
One of the core keywords of island archaeology is islandness(or insularity). islandness is literally related to islands, and island archaeology has focused on how this islandness has been related to social·cultural interaction.
In the Korean Bronze Age, research related to island archaeology is very insufficient. However, there are not a few material traces related to the Korean Bronze Age in the island areas, and in this way, communities in the coastal landscape, their subsistence patterns, and cultural interactions can become important research themes.
The community of the island Gangwhado is believed to have embraced their culture through exchanges with various communities in the Gyeonggi-do region, and at the same time, they solidified their identity by building Dolmens densely based on the confined space of the island. In this process, the material practices of daily lives were replaced with elements of Yeoksam-dong·Heunam-ri cultural assemblage, but the Northwestern Korea style of Dolmen was continuously built as material practices to reveal their legitimacy and maintain social power relationships through it.
In the meanwhile, referring to the cases of the Jeju region, the act of building Dolmens in the Korean Bronze Age cannot be understood only in the context of an agrarian society. In the Jeju region, it is estimated that they continued their settlements based on various livelihood activities such as the foodgathering economics. In this way, it can be seen that various subsistence patterns and acts of marine origin interacted with the building process of Dolmens and constituted the social relations and cultural identity of the island village community." @default.
