Among various building blocks used in self-assembly, the nanostructures from amino acids, peptides, and proteins are drawing significant attention because of their similarity with biomolecules, biocompatibility, biodegradability, commercial availability of building blocks, and tunability for bottom-up fabrication. They can form nanostructures of different morphologies and dimensions such as fibers, ribbons, tubes, vesicles, rods, spheres, etc. They can be tuned to find many potential applications in diverse areas of science and technology. This bottom-up approach can not only provide functional materials but also can be explored to understand the protein fibrillation process linked to neurological disorders. Here we aim to cover supramolecular assemblies based on these bioinspired building blocks, various design strategies to attain nanoarchitectures with different morphologies and dimensions, their possible applications, and thereby encouraging the scientific community to undertake this exciting research area and explore promising applications." @default.
