- W4303470672 abstract "The unprecedented amount of carbon emission (CO 2 ) from industries and the transport sector utilizing fossil fuels has created unavoidable environmental issues like global warming. The overuse of these traditional fossil fuels is also diminishing their reservoirs. Thus, there is an urgent need to address these issues and find a suitable way to convert these gases into valuable fuel as a sustainable energy and to find new and green renewable resources of energy. Efforts are being made to convert toxic and harmful CO 2 gases into valuable fuel and syngas through CO 2 reduction reactions. Suitable and highly stable catalysts are required to rapidly reduce CO 2 into selective products like CO, due to the formation of various intermediate products during CO 2 reduction reactions. Two-dimensional (2D) catalyst species have gained special attention due to their synergistic features for CO 2 reduction. At the same time, for the commercial production of hydrogen as a new and sustainable fuel, the 2D materials exhibiting high surface area and more efficient active sites have gained particular attention as a potential replacement for platinum (Pt) and iridium oxide (IrO 2 ) in hydrogen evolution reactions (HER) and oxygen evolution reactions (OER), respectively. This chapter describes the importance of 2D materials for CO 2 reduction and H 2 generation, with examples of recently discovered different materials highlighting their performance for different industrial applications." @default.
