- W4304187620 abstract "The goal of tumor immunology is the cure of cancer through manipulation of the immune system of the host, eventually leading to the destruction of neoplastic cells. Many efforts have been made over the last few years to develop lymphoid cells with antitumor activity in the hope of applying such reagents in adoptive immunotherapy of cancer. Although both IL-2 and aliostimulation could trigger Pt-PBL to lyse autologous tumor, in a high percentage of cases, cold target inhibition experiments and studies on precursor cells indicated that the two types of effectors may work through different mechanisms. Before using the tumor-cytotoxic cells in patients, as possible effectors of adoptive immunotherapy, we felt that athymic nude mice could represent a useful system to evaluate the effect of activated human lymphocytes on the growth of autologous melanoma in an in vivo environment." @default.
