In this work, a fast, simple and eco-friendly method using electrolytic dissolution and linear sweep voltammetry to quantify chromium in stainless steel samples in just two steps was developed. The electrolytic dissolution was performed in 0.6 mol L -1 HNO 3 solution, applying 0.8 mA cm -2 current density and 30 mC electrical charge, without gas evolution at the electrodes and anodic passivation tendency. In the same electrochemical cell and electrolyte, the voltammetric measurement was performed using a gold electrode to monitor the reduction current of Cr(VI) ions. The method presented excellent analytical performance with a limit of detection of 0.08 µmol L -1 , a wide working linear range from 0.3 to 2.1 µmol L -1 (15.6 to 109.2 µg L -1 ), and good precision (RSD = 3%, n = 10). The results obtained are evidence that the developed method has good accuracy since the chromium concentrations are in agreement with the reference values at a 95% confidence level. Additionally, this method was extremely fast, requiring only 75 s for dissolution and voltammetric measurement, making it a promising analytical tool for implementation in quality control analyses of stainless steel manufacturing." @default.
