- W4306248936 abstract "Shale, a clastic sedimentary rock, acts as a major source rock for the conventional petroleum systems. Due to its fine grain-size, it can accumulate organic matter significantly. The thermal transformation of shale's organic content in the subsurface produces oil and natural gas. For the unconventional petroleum systems such as shale gas, the shale itself is the source and the reservoir rock. In order to quantify the generative potential of shale source rocks, mapping of sedimentary organic matter in terms of its richness, kerogen quality, and maturity is essential. Sedimentary biomarkers and their isotopic ratios measure the compositional changes associated with hydrocarbon generation, migration, accumulation, and production. This study presents the gas-generation potential of Upper Permian shales from the Damodar Valley in eastern India using biomarker and stable isotope proxies, along with an overview on the recent analytical developments in the geochemical characterization of sedimentary organic matter in a shale rock for successful evaluation of a shale gas play." @default.
