- W4306992969 abstract "High life expectancy and increase in the elderly population worldwide are motivating research into aging. Studies in the nutritional area and interaction with the gene (nutrigenomics) have increased the understanding of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Healthy aging is all the processes involved in developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables well-being in old age. Data on nutrigenomics, functional foods, healthy aging, and plant bioactives were searched using the following databases: Allied and Complementary Medicine Database, Scopus, ProQuest, Medline, PubMed, African Journals Online, Embase, and Google Scholar. Hand searching in the bibliography of relevant articles was also employed to obtain all relevant peer-reviewed literature. The chapter concludes that some plant-derived bioactives, consumed as part of our diet, can influence human health at the gene level and promote healthy aging." @default.
