In this work, hydrophobic sinusoidal textured surfaces of 40Cr steel were fabricated via nanosecond laser ablation through oil film. It was discovered that the textured 40Cr surface undergoes a hydrophobic transition from its initial hydrophilicity and displays strong adhesion to water. The wettability transition mechanism is investigated, demonstrating that the hydrophobicity of textured surfaces primarily attributes to the presence of surface roughness and the low surface energy hydrocarbon layer. Additionally, the enhanced surface hydrophobicity has a beneficial effect on reducing the friction coefficient. This work is expected to provide a novel strategy to enhance the tribological properties of alloy steel." @default.
