- W4308102016 abstract "Ferrite materials have been known to ancient cultures for many centuries. Both the ancient Greek and Chinese cultures make reference to lodestone, a mineral displaying spontaneous magnetic polarization and attraction to iron, as early as the sixth-century BCE. This chapter lists the major development and key inventions that mark the evolution of ferrites. Today, ferrites play an essential role in modern society. Nearly every consumer product has one or more ferrites as embedded components. Major technological market growth of ferrites is enabled by the development of high-quality crystals (by several techniques), polycrystalline compacts (including low-temperature co-fired ceramics), films (as pulsed laser deposition, spin-spray films, liquid phase epitaxy, sputtering, and MBE), and nanoparticles. Technologies range from magnetic storage; medical (as magnetic resonance imaging contrast agents and magnetic hyperthermia), power generation, conditioning, and conversion; RF and millimeter-wave devices for the sending, receiving, and manipulating electromagnetic signals for communication, radar, and sensing." @default.
