- W4308102935 abstract "Abstract The emergence and development of the digital media environment have facilitated the proliferation of new forms of religious practice and reshaped the more traditional ones. However, these developments apply to secularism and atheism, and it could be argued that increased awareness of secularism and atheism in the 21st century has been conditioned by digitalization. This chapter proceeds by mapping the existing research on secularism and atheism in digital religion studies and in media, religion, and culture, and then moves to an examination of how the development of digital media spaces has shaped and enlivened secularist and atheist practices. Three analytically separate but interconnected areas will be studied, starting from the most general societal level, proceeding to communities and associations, and finally focusing on atheist individuals and their digital networks." @default.
