- W4308221377 abstract "Illicit drug profiling employs chemical and physical data to assist law enforcement agencies disrupt both the manufacture and trafficking of illicit drugs. Generally this has been confined to drugs trafficked in high volume including heroin, cocaine and amphetamine type stimulants such as methylamphetamine. Drug profiling programs focused on these drugs in particular because of the harm to the social fabric of many communities and the damage to national economies. Determination of geographical origin of semi-cultivated drugs such as heroin and cultivated drugs such as cocaine requires complex chemical analysis to identify major alkaloids, manufacturing by-products and solvents used in their production. Similarly, synthesis route determination of fully synthetic drugs relies on elaborate analytical chemistry techniques. Drug profiling has evolved considerably since its beginnings and today includes techniques such as isotope ratio mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy." @default.
