- W4308386398 abstract "Single-atom electrocatalysts have been proven to be the great promising catalysts for energy-related fields yet their active site structure remains elusive, especially in dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC). Herein, atomically dispersed Pt is anchored into α-MoC@CS carrier (Pt/α-MoC@CS), which vigorously stimulates the activity of Pt single atoms under the strong metal interaction. As expected, the Pt/α-MoC@CS as the cathode in DSSC exhibits high power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 9.67%, exceeding Pt electrode (7.61%). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy combined with density functional theory calculations reveals that the high activity is mainly derived from charge re-distribution of Pt/α-MoC@CS caused by the interaction between Pt atoms and α-MoC. This interaction not only achieves the optimized adsorption/desorption energy of reactants but also brings synergic advantages to expedite the reaction kinetics of the overall system. This work paves further research prospects for charge re-distribution, stimulating electrocatalysts to effectively enhance their catalytic properties by an atomic-level engineering strategy. DSSC constructed with Pt@α-MoC@CS cathode achieves 9.87% high power conversion efficiency (PCE) and durability. Research shows that atomically dispersed Pt atoms are anchored on α-MoC@CS, tuning local charge re-distribution between Pt and α-MoC and significantly reducing adsorption energy of I ions compared with α-MoC@CS and achieving the optimized adsorption/desorption energy range to enhance catalytic activity. • Pt/α-MoC@CS nanocomposites were firstly synthesized as cathode in DSSCs. • Maximizing the activity of Pt atoms by introducing Pt single atoms into α-MoC@CS matrix. • The strong interactions cause charge re-distribution and optimize Pt active center. • The PCE of DSSC with Pt/α-MoC@CS cathode achieves 9.87%, exceeding Pt cathode." @default.
