- W4308575306 abstract "Smart fabrics known as actuating textiles have garnered increasing interest as a valuable material for countless applications due to their versatility and embedding potential. These fabrics can express unique and dynamic behaviours in multi-dimensional configurations when stimulated by leveraging active materials such as shape memory alloys, inflatable bladders, and smart polymers while being incorporated into standard cloth materials. Such materials aim to play a vital role in the future of discrete soft exoskeleton designs, fashion, soft robotics and medicine, offering an attractive alternative to rigid counterparts.Recent efforts in their development have looked to incorporate the attractive properties of carbon nanotubes, such as high conductivity and high tensile strengths, into these fabrics to improve their overall actuation capabilities. However, these investigations have been hindered by their cost and fabrication complexity. Though fabrication processes have been improving, translation of these techniques to commercial practices remains limited, further reducing textile application adoption. In this paper, reported carbon nanotube-based textiles are reviewed with an emphasis on their incorporation techniques, performance and fabrication methods, properties most crucial for commercial adoption and textile design. With this review, areas requiring further research to improve the feasibility of these carbon nanotube composite textiles are highlighted to direct future textile research." @default.
