- W4308791810 abstract "The fiber may have strong local birefringence or diattenuation. For some applications, such as fiber optical gyroscopes (FOGs), the ability to identify the location and magnitude of the polarization crosstalk is important for the improvement of the polarization-maintaining fiber coils for FOGs. The stress induced crosstalks are mostly complicated, some occurring at sharp points in space, some occurring gradually along a length of fiber, with varied amplitudes, depending on the stress orientations with respect to the slow axis and the stress strengths. The Gaussian-like birefringence distribution in each fiber loop is possibly caused by the following reasons: low-pass digital filtering during data processing, averaging of multiple data traces, including multiple frequency scans in each measurement and 20 full-measurements, and imperfections of the fiber loops, such as non-circularity, birefringence induced adhesive tapes for fixing each fiber loop, fiber bend between two adjacent loops, and fiber twist." @default.
