In this study, we developed an algorithm for vapor–liquid–aqueous–hydrate four-phase equilibrium calculations. The algorithm was formulated in a stage-wise manner: a stability test was first conducted, followed by flash calculations if instability was determined. In addition to the van der Waals–Platteeuw model for predicting the presence of a hydrate phase, we propose a novel criterion for determining the onset of hydrate dissociation. To calculate phase fractions and compositions, our algorithm provides a series of material-balance equations for hydrates. Sample calculations were conducted for several fluids. For the sample fluids, the pressure–temperature and pressure–composition phase diagrams were plotted for systems containing the hydrate phase, using the developed four-phase equilibrium calculation algorithm to conduct point-to-point calculations, which demonstrated its robustness and accuracy." @default.
