- W4309151966 abstract "Leopold Caro, born into a Jewish family of Polish patriots, was a lawyer, economist, and devoted Catholic who was deeply involved in discussion about the rules of economic life as well as in reflection about the development of Poland. This chapter examines the aspects of law most associated with Leopold Caro’s thought. The first section is devoted to his critique of the dominating trends of economic and ideological thinking of his day, namely, socialism/collectivism and liberalism/capitalism. Caro’s critique of those stands was grounded in his reflection on the nature of law, which allowed him to reveal their shared anthropological understanding. The second section deals with Caro’s project of establishing a solidarist regime, which he treated as a central issue of all his economic and social reflection. Presentation of the idea of solidarism also reveals some risks connected with perceiving principles of Catholic social doctrine as a source of a political and economic “third way.” The third section presents Caro’s approach to positive law. Discussion focuses on his most important legislative proposals aiming at improving the common good and solving the most painful social injustices. Special attention is paid to his proposals for regulation in the area of migration." @default.
