- W4309358512 abstract "Urinary incontinence beyond the normal developmental stage of bladder control often leads to significant stress to the patient and family and negatively impacts their quality of life. Nocturnal enuresis is distinguished from daytime urinary incontinence (DUI), which includes categories of functional disorders, including dysfunctional voiding, overactive bladder, and voiding postponement as the most common disorders. Urinary incontinence can also be an early sign of a variety of pathologic processes and include organic disorders such as renal disease, metabolic disorders, or neurogenic bladder. The challenge for the clinician is seeking clues in the history and physical exam that will help differentiate functional voiding disorders from the many organic causes of incontinence. The symptom of polyuria, or the overproduction of dilute urine, should be sought in the history and evaluation as its presence helps differentiate an organic disorder from one that is functional." @default.
