The safety issues, nonspecific targets, low oral bioavailability, and the resistance due to the use of multiple drugs have drawn the attention of the investigators in the direction of developing well designed or modified smart drug carriers for proficient, localized, and targeted delivery of the drugs of clinical utility. Molecularly imprinted polymer facilitated drug delivery is fetching attention due to their attractive design and concept as the most promising drug delivery systems. The binding sites created within the polymeric matrix are explicit, precise, and specific, with the potential to turn them into a carrier with immense utilities along with tunable features, high drug-loading capability, and greater control over the release of the payloads even in the presence of stimuli. This chapter summarizes the state-of-the-art MIPs, their designing, MIP-motivated drug delivery systems, stimuli-responsive MIPs, their application in drug delivery by different routes of administration (i.e., transcutaneous, otic, and GI routes) for effective therapy of cancer, metabolic disorders, rheumatological disorders, and vital assessment of the existing challenges and forthcoming perspectives of these exceptionally unique drug delivery vehicles. At last, the future projections of molecularly imprinted drug delivery forms are duly addressed." @default.
