It is essential to apply the enzymatic process as a green technology to meet the net-zero carbon emissions required in a sustainable future society. Biocatalysts are attractive catalysts that perform highly enantio- and regioselective reaction mechanisms on substrates, but their low stability and high enzyme price compared to chemical reactions are major barriers to reducing product cost. Therefore, immobilization technology that can use enzymes stably and continuously has been and is urgently required, and enzyme discovery and biocatalyst design technology would be essential for the future green economy. In this chapter, we review the screening methods for enzymes according to industrial purposes and process parameters in the stage prior to enzyme immobilization. Methods for improving the activity, stability, and functionality of selected enzymes through the recently developed advanced bioinformatics and molecular biology tools are included." @default.
