- W4309951270 abstract "The penetration of wind energy into the grid is increasing rapidly; however, the transmission network infrastructure remains the same. Due to thermal limit restrictions, the transmission lines are capable of carrying only a limited amount of power. This leads to transmission line congestion during high penetration of wind power. As a result, a huge amount of wind power is being curtailed on a regular basis. The objective of this paper is to minimize the amount of wind energy curtailment subject to thermal limit constraints. To this end, a system integrity protection scheme (SIPS) based method using real-time network data and meteorological data is adopted. The thermal rating of the transmission line changes dynamically with variation in five parameters: ambient temperature, wind speed, wind direction, time of the day, and date. A linear programming (LP) problem has been framed for maximizing the amount of wind power injection into the system, simultaneously resulting in fulfilling the objective of minimization of the wind power curtailment. The proposed SIPS is tested for the WSCC 9-bus, the New England 39-bus, and the IEEE 300-bus networks and the results highlight the performance of the method to minimize wind curtailment substantially." @default.
