- W4309967086 abstract "Threading the concepts of democracy of knowledge and the things that matter, this chapter provides a historical background to critically appraise the role of concept of development in post-WW2 geopolitics and subsequent globalization of economy and culture. With postmodern realizations exhibiting the neo-colonial and imperial character of the development ideology, the loss of intellectual and political currency of the concept is reviewed. Towards the end of the 20th Century, the resource to several development attributes unsuccessfully tried to give new life to the idea, leading to decades of scepticism known as post-development. Once the modern idea of development was exhausted, an alternative emerged combining the unviability of indefinite economic growth with the possibility of endless expansion of intangible social value. The chapter ends with an overview of the KBD field and how it connects with the Anthropocene, including applications at several levels of analysis: urban-regional, national, intra-national, cross-national, and international." @default.
