- W4310362871 abstract "With Wicked and Hamilton cast albums achieving multiplatinum status and television musical programs like High School Musical, Glee, Smash, Galavant, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend attracting scores of loyal fans, musical theatre is a staple of contemporary US American culture. As fandom often morphs into the desire to learn more about the craft of musical theatre performance, training programs have blossomed around the world in the twenty-first century in and beyond traditional instruction in high schools and universities, to include workshops, academies, conservatories, audition preparation, and online instruction. This chapter provides an overview of the various types of undergraduate training programs from BA to BFA, from university to conservatory in the US, the UK, Germany, and Japan. Attention will also be paid to college audition preparation, noting the process by which students enter undergraduate programs. Once upon a time, it might have been enough to “have a gimmick,” but now the musical theatre performer needs solid technique in voice, acting, and dance. Those goals can be accomplished via a wide range of educational offerings." @default.
