- W4310367144 abstract "Neutrophils are innate immune cells that are key players in regulating immune responses to pathogens such as viruses, fungi, and bacteria. They control these infections through various antimicrobial mechanisms. One such mechanism involves the generation of bactericidal structures called neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) which are associated with a form of cell death termed NETosis. Under specific contexts, physiological and pathological triggers allow generation of NETosis through a proinflammatory pathway called the inflammasome. Inflammasomes activate inflammatory proteases that coordinate NETosis by cleaving the pore-forming protein gasdermin D. This chapter summarize recent developments on the inflammasome pathway, describing the mechanisms by which they control NETosis and highlighting their involvement in diseases and potential therapeutic avenues." @default.
