- W4310439172 abstract "This chapter concerns the presence and presentation of ageing masculinities in action-thriller films of the past decade, specifically those that involve plots of retribution. The three films discussed in this chapter come from a range of national contexts and feature ageing male protagonists seeking vengeance for crimes committed against their families and respective communities. Though each of these films fit into the action-thriller genre, I will argue that their thematic and structural foundations derive from the Western film genre and its often complicated, independent heroes who become outsiders as they mete out justice. These ageing characters are ultimately defined by their competencies, not their decline, and their status as aged men who do not fit into their communities highlights their readiness to fight back against violence in ways that no other force for good is willing to commit to." @default.
