- W4310558189 abstract "Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most common idiopathic neurological disease. The loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta accompanied by locomotor defects is the hallmark of PD. Yet, the etiology of PD remains unclear. Although most PD is sporadic, several genes and environmental risk factors are associated with this disease. Recent epidemiological studies have shown that exposure to the known pesticide such as rotenone (ROT) increased the risk of developing PD. Various PD animal models allow us to understand the pathobiology of PD at the molecular and cellular levels. Nevertheless, the drosophila model successfully provided valuable model organism to study toxins induced as well as genetically linked PD and provides insight into pathways relevant to PD pathogenesis. This chapter describes the drosophila PD model using ROT, which caused oxidative damage and motor plus non-motor deficits and respective interaction with the PD gene." @default.
