- W4310559320 abstract "Stroke is a most challenging neurological disorder, standing it as a second leading cause of death globally. Therapeutic options for stroke include recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA), the only FDA-approved anti-thrombotic drug. The limitations of rt-PA include administration within a time window of 4.5 h after onset of stroke and risk of hemorrhagic transformation. As no satisfactory treatment is available yet, hence there is a need for intensive research using animal models to explore new therapeutic interventions. To explore the various pathophysiological mechanisms involved in stroke and search for potential neuroprotective agents, numerous animal models have been established. The present chapter focuses upon the intraluminal filament middle cerebral artery occlusion model of transient focal cerebral ischemia in rats. The experimental parameter’s neurological function deficits, motor function tests, gait analysis tests, cerebral infarction using TTC and magnetic resonance imaging, regional cerebral blood flow via Laser Doppler technique, and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy-based metabolomics have been detailed." @default.
