- W4310732875 abstract "The demand for increasing women’s participation in business management is argued to improve corporate governance, which may result in better financial standing of companies. However, this perception is not common and the literature points to both positive and negative relationships between both phenomena. The question arises whether these issues also apply to the Polish capital market. The purpose of this study is to examine whether the presence of women in the governing bodies of companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange affects their financial performance. Presented research concerns companies belonging to main stock indices in 2010–2019. The management structure was determined as of June 30 of the following years; financial ratios were measured at the end of each year, and the multidimensional vector measures were used to assess companies’ standing. The research confirms that the share of women in management staff of public companies in Poland is low and, although the representation of women increased significantly during the study period, it is very far from the so-called critical mass, defined at the level of 30%. No positive relationship is confirmed between the increase in women’s representation on supervisory boards and companies’ financial performance." @default.
