- W4311135312 abstract "Glass cullet (GC) grains reinforced polyester resin-based polymer matrix composite (PMC) samples with or without coconut shell (CNS) grain filler have been prepared by the compression molding method. Three compositions with 69 wt%, 67 wt%, & 65 wt% of glass cullet grains respectively along with fixed 20 wt% of coconut shell grains has been prepared. Another sample with 85 wt% of GC grains without any CNS grain filler has also been prepared by the same process. The glass cullet was used after being washed, crushed, ground into a powder, and then sieved through the ASTM E11 set of the sieve. After the preparation of the composites, the samples were tested for density, water absorption, hardness, compressive strength, and surface roughness. Moreover, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) has been performed for morphological study of the samples' surface. The surface roughness of the GC-CNS composite is increased with increasing glass cullet particle composition. Obtained results showed that the GC grains reinforced composite without any CNS filler has a higher density (2.01 g/cm3), hardness (910 HV), and compressive strength (100.4 MPa); and lower water absorption (5.23%) and porosity than the composites with CNS filler. Therefore, GC grains reinforced PMC without CNS grain filler is very promising to be used in abrasive surfaces." @default.
