- W4311421636 abstract "Overall water splitting processes in homogeneous media using water-soluble innovative photocatalyst Theraphthal (TP) are reported. TP, having a coral-like morphology composed of 2D particles with average size 245 nm, is a Co-substituted phthalocyanine with –COONa and –COOH groups, able to generate Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) under ultrasonic treatment and possessing antitumoral properties. Both H2 and O2 evolution under UVA irradiation of the TP aqueous solution has been observed, considerably increasing O2 generation and suppression of H2 formation in case of additional assisting with ultrasound due to the synergistic effect of the light and the sonochemical treatment. The stability of the alternative TP homogeneous photocatalysis was demonstrated after three consecutive evaluation cycles and by the analysis of its absorption spectra. The highest O2 yield obtained was superior (1,444 µmol in 3 h) to previous reports of using traditional phthalocyanines. Also, possible mechanism for water splitting processes in homogeneous media based on ROS generation on the TP surface and reversible transfer of Co2+ ↔ Co3+ is proposed." @default.
