- W4311467969 abstract "Extract When I began working on the first edition of Choral Repertoire fourteen years ago, my intent was to provide students of choral music with an overview of the vast and complex expanse of choral music—to present the main composers and repertoire of the choral canon, with commentary and annotations that would aid novice musicians in their awareness of the composers and comprehension of the music. In so doing, I would also provide practicing conductors with material helpful to them in their programming, as well as data for choral scholars based on the most current research and information for choral enthusiasts that would increase their appreciation of the music they enjoyed. There is reason to believe, through usage and testimonies, that these goals have been met. However, since the book’s publication in 2009 the landscape of choral music has changed considerably. There is much more information available to us today about composers and their repertoire, including, and significantly, information about previously overlooked women composers and composers of color, and in addition, we now have access to an increased amount of choral music—both historical and modern—along with advanced scholarly information about these composers and compositions. Even the nature of choral music as an art form has expanded. Thus, it has seemed necessary, even mandatory, to write a second edition of the book, one that takes these factors into account." @default.
