- W4311571909 abstract "As a potential bio-implant material, magnesium and its alloys are widely used in orthopedics. In this study, Mg-Zn-Yb-Ag metallic glasses were fabricated by injecting them into a copper mold. The addition of ytterbium (Yb) and precious metal silver significantly improved the amorphous-forming abilities of the alloys. The results showed that the addition of 8% Yb and the appearance of a hard phase resulted in a strength value of over 460 MPa under compression testing. Even the Yb4 alloy, which had an amorphous structure, did not suffer from a significant decrease in mechanical properties due to its single phase, but rather had a high strain. According to the CCK-8 tests, it provided an excellent antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect. The addition of an appropriate amount of rare-earth element Yb to amorphous Mg-based alloys could remarkably influence the amorphous alloy forming abilities, mechanical properties, biocompatibility and antimicrobial resistance." @default.
