- W4311611730 abstract "In this chapter we review the available evidence on the impacts of invasive aquatic animals on tourism and recreation. A case study approach is used to outline the range of potential impacts observed, recognizing that the type and severity of species impacts will vary widely depending on the extent of the invasion, the socio-economic context and the nature of the invaded environment. We highlight that while studies have largely considered the negative impacts of invasive animals on tourism and recreation, invasive species may simultaneously provide benefits to these industries. To facilitate informed management, rather than viewing impacts in isolation, a shift is required to a whole-system approach, with decision making considering both the positive and the negative impacts of invasive species on recreation and tourism. To assist this inclusive approach, there need to be further studies that focus on providing valuation information (both economic and non-economic) on the impacts of aquatic invasive species on tourism and recreation and for other facets of human well-being." @default.
