In this context, the legal profession in Australia, after a long overdue review, has been characterized as a “man's world” badly in need of cultural change. Calls for cultural change, however, beg many questions, including: What is the culture that needs changing? What are the critical features of legal culture that characterize it as masculine? What units do we even use to define a particular legal culture? Using the oral history narratives of Australian women working in the legal profession as a form of context-related “micro unit” for analysis, this entry responds to these questions. It seeks to understand the way gendered legal cultures have operated to exclude women from full participation, and what needs to change for fairness to be extended to all." @default.
