With the aim to reduce the energy consumption during processing, a room temperature (RT) curing of the epoxy monomer is performed in presence of bio-based itaconic acid (IA). The RT curing process was demonstrated by means of DSC, rheology, and real-time ATR FTIR and the thermo-mechanical properties were investigated by DMTA. As last step, the properties of the coating surface were modified via an UV-induced thiol-ene reaction between the CC double bonds from itaconic acid moieties and fluorine-based monomers. The surface functionalization was investigated by contact angle measurements and XPS analysis." @default.
