- W4311761401 abstract "For about a decade now, numbers of non-traditional students at universities in western countries have been increasing. However, longitudinal studies focusing on the development of motivation among this group are rare. We therefore analyse the development of subject interest as one aspect of motivation, comparing nontraditional students with traditional students. The data used for the analysis are taken from the project “Study Process—Crossroads, Determinants of Success and Barriers while Studying at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University”, which included N = 5513 participants (5327 traditional students, 186 non-traditional students) with at least two measurement points. The results identify the effect that over the entire undergraduate study programme, non-traditional students have a higher level of subject interest than traditional students. However, subject interest decreases during the study programme among both groups and in the same way. We discuss results in the current state of research, reflect on practical implications, and suggest further research." @default.
