- W4311900512 abstract "In a post-feminist world, where the question of women is seen as redundant, developing nations like India still grapple with issues of gender, sexuality and the taboos imposed by local and nationalistic patriarchies. This chapter attempts to explore the voice of Amrita Pritam, the post-colonial woman intellectual who subverted national, communal, identities imposed by multiple patriarchies in her writing and life. The first poem taken up is ‘Ajj Aakhaan Waris Shah nu’ that addresses Waris Shah, the voice of the literary tradition of Punjab to confront the body of Hir, the romanticised woman that became the site that was plundered for the construction of the nation. In addition, ‘Majboor’ (‘The Scar of a Wound’) and ‘Nau Supne’ (‘Nine Dreams’) are also taken up, to discuss the contested body of woman either to re-inscribe the violated woman as a mother by subverting the birth of the nation as a euphoric event or to demystify the religious, patriarchal codes by presenting Tripta, the mother of Nanak as a real woman having a sexed and gestating body." @default.
