- W4312442988 abstract "Research on the modification of clay by pillarization using iron oxide and surfactant Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) has been carried out. This study aims to obtain CTAB and magnetite-modified clays with variations in clay weight and determine the optimum clay mass in the synthesis of Clay@CTA/magnetite for adsorption of Cr(VT) metal ions. The synthesis was initiated by activating the clay with HCl, followed by adding one mmol of CTAB surfactant into the clay with variations in clay weight 2; 4; 6; 8; and 10 g. Then the addition of Fe2+ and Fe3+ metal ions formed magnetite as metal pillars of FeCl3.6H20 and FeCl2.4H20 with a ratio of Fe2+ and Fe3+=1:2 mole ratios. The results obtained were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD). Adsorption of Cr(VT) metal ion was carried out at pH 3 with a contact time of 2 hours. Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) tested the remaining Cr(VT) metal ion concentration from the adsorption was tested by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). The results of XRD characterization on Clay@CTA/Magnetite showed a new peak at 20=35.53°, which is the typical peak of magnetite. Based on the adsorption process, it was found that the optimal adsorption of Cr(VT) metal ions occurred in Clay@CTA/Magnetite with a mass variation of 8 grams with an adsorbed concentration of 24.01%. While the Clay@CTA occurs in 10-gram mass variations with an adsorbed concentration of 10.66%." @default.
