- W4312589952 abstract "Cornet Mikhail P. Glebov, who served in the Lifeguards Cavalry Regiment, while on the Caucasian Mineralnye Vody to treat wounds received in a campaign against the highlanders in 1840, became a second in a duel on July 15, 1841, which took place between retired major Nikolai S. Martynov and lieutenant Mikhail Yu. Lermontov. The death of Lermontov and the further fate of the seconds of this tragic story is known from many archival documents, memoirs of witnesses, published at different times. Among the participants of the duel, only Mikhail P. Glebov was in military service, his life was also cut short in the Caucasus in 1847 during the storming of the village of Salta. On September 28, 1843, during his business trip, the cornet was captured by the highlanders. The funds of the Russian State Military Historical Archive (RGVIA) preserved correspondence about the progress of the official investigation of this incident and the attempts to free cornet Glebov from captivity. We have in our disposal just a few documents, but they contain information about the circumstances of the capture of the commander of the Separate Caucasian Corps Glebov’s aide-decamp, who was sent to St. Petersburg with reports to the Minister of War, between the stations of Sergievskaya and Bazovaya Balka, and about the role of two highlanders, Karamurzin and Belyalov, who took an active part in the release of the prisoner. Overcoming dangers, the two daredevils stole Glebov on November 27, 1843, and handed him over to the head of the right flank of the Caucasian line, Major General Olshevsky." @default.
