- W4312798895 abstract "The chapter strives to portray Malaviya as a multifarious personality, a true patriot and a great educationist, a reluctant but effective lawyer, a torrid journalist, and a four-time president of the Indian National Congress, an outstanding statesman and a successful parliamentarian. The chapter highlights many achievements of Malaviya, among which the most monumental and splendid job is the establishment of the BHU which remained a citadel of learning and knowledge both within India and abroad. He also set up ‘Prayaga Hindu Samaj’, and have voiced and penned on different issues of the country in different occasions. In 1984, he joined as a member of ‘Hindi Uddharini Pratinidhi Sabha’ and edited ‘Indian Union’ English weekly in 1885. He preached and propagated Hindu culture and Sanatan Dhārma and launched ‘Bharata Dharma Mahamandal’. In order to promote Sanatan Dhārma and Hindu ideals, he had edited different magazines and had founded various organisations. But his Sanatan Hindu Dhārma was inclusive in character and was never sectarian and was not against any religion. He always endeavoured to construct India as a developing and strong country in the world. From 1924 to 1946, he was the chairman of ‘Hindustan Times’. To serve the nation better and for dedicating his full time for the cause of the country, in 1913, he left his legal practice. He dreamed for a free and strong India and was an idealist as far as his personal life, views on religion, spirituality, education and human problems were concerned. He always stood for the cause of the country and tried his best to do so. The chapter tries to explore Madan Mohan Malaviya’s ideal-humanist thought which includes his life sketch, social-political ideas, educational philosophy, his role and contribution for establishing BHU, views on nation and nationalism and his role in India’s freedom struggle and building of the nation." @default.
