- W4312988093 abstract "Summary Development of geothermal projects in the Netherlands continues to be largely impacted by uncertainty related to the subsurface, i.e. the presence and quality of the reservoir. The available well data provides only a few check points for building coarse reservoir models that are used to forecast production and economic viability of projects. We hereby propose the use of legacy seismic data from open repositories to in-fill those geomodels with detailed information on the lateral distribution of porosity and -when possible- permeability estimations. To achieve this, we utilize the Wave Equation Based (WEB-AVO) inversion to produce elastic properties from seismic data that are then turned into porosity / permeability. WEB-AVO inversion harnesses all the benefits of an elastic full wavefield inversion scheme, and it has proven to be very robust against noise, allowing the direct inversion of legacy seismic data into elastic properties without the added burden, time and cost, of seismic reprocessing/preconditioning, which is often a financial and time expense geothermal operators cannot justify. The workflow is currently demonstrated on a 3D seismic case study on the Triassic Main Buntsandstein reservoirs in the Voorne region of the West Netherlands Basin as part of the MAXIM consortium research." @default.
