- W4313019598 abstract "Melon seeds are an excellent source of vegetable oil with significant health-promoting properties due to their unsaturated fatty acid profile and high content of specific bioactive compounds. To know the specific character of melon seed oil content purification action is required. Refining seed oil is very important to improve the quality of the oil produced, both physical and chemical characters. This study aims to determine the effect of the chemical refining process on the quality of melon seed oil obtained by the continuous extraction method using a soxhlet apparatus in n-hexane solvent and determine the composition of melon seed oil using the Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Conclusion of the research was refining processes affect the physicochemical properties of melon seed oil both color, density, water content, and also affect reducing the acid number, peroxide number, and saponification number from 1,248 ± 0 mg NaOH / g to 0,416 ± 0 mg NaOH / g, 0.566 ± 0.040 mequiv O2 / g to 0.274 ± 0 mequiv O2 / g and 188.589 ± 1.147 mg KOH / g to 182.424 ± 0.79 mg KOH / g. Before refining, the composition of melon seed oil contained 16.00% palmitic acid, 63.56% linoleic acid, and 20.43% squalene. While after refining, the component of melon seed oil contained 5.69% palmitic acid, oleic acid 54.06%, and squalene 40.25%." @default.
