- W4313188056 abstract "According to WHO drug strategy survey, majority of the population in both developing and developed countries use herbal medicines leading to chances of herb-drug interactions. Sometimes, herbal medicines are taken along with the synthetic therapeutic medicines for the management of complicated diseases, and the interaction between herb-drug affects the efficacy of each other. Desirable interaction or potentiation of efficacy is not achieved often. The herb-drug interaction occurs via different pathways but the most important process is mediated through the cytochrome P450 (CYP450) drug metabolism and transport carriers which induce or suppress the overall efficacy of drug molecules. Herbs also go through the same process of metabolism and transport. Here we have summarized the antagonistic herb-drug interactions in various diseases along with the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics. This chapter can help the physician and healthcare professionals as a reference and act accordingly to reduce the adverse effect due to these interactions." @default.
