- W4313209035 abstract "We read with great interest Shrivastava’s article “Effect of integrated approach of yoga and naturopathy on polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)” a single case study.[1] The authors described elaborately the impact of various yoga and naturopathy interventions in the management of PCOS. They have done extended follow-ups as well. They have found that 6 months of yoga and naturopathy interventions produce remarkable changes in body weight, body mass index, menstrual cycle, and ultrasonography (USG) images. They have comprehensively modified their diet, which we believe has contributed to better outcomes. In the same way, we have also treated around 300 PCOS patients from 2014 to 2021 in our yoga and naturopathy clinical setup with an inpatient facility. In south India, the State of Tamil Nadu came up with a clinical model to curb the rampant prevalence of lifestyle disorders by using the Yoga and Naturopathy (Y & N) lifestyle clinics across all 33 districts of the state. There was a positive trend in the number of patients visiting various Y & N centers from 2015 to 2018 (8,914,820).[2] These patients were treated mainly through the unique “Live” food concept of the naturopathy diet [Table 1], which includes complete raw fruits and vegetables (cucumber, carrot, beetroot, ash gourd, curry leaves, green gram, and ground nut sprouts, guava, melons, orange, coconut, Indian gooseberry, gapes).[3] Raw fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, vitamins, and minerals, which highly help to reduce inflammation.[4] Live foods are low in glycemic index, which reduces insulin resistance, thereby preventing the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases and PCOS.[4] In addition to that, patients are tailored with yoga and naturopathy interventions such as asanas, pranayama, relaxation techniques, enema, hydrotherapy, mud therapy, massage therapy, and aromatherapy.[5,6] We found improvements in body weight, menstrual cycle pattern, and also in ovarian morphology, the data of which are being documented to be published in the near future.Table 1: Naturopathy live food for PCOSFinancial support and sponsorship Nil.
