- W4313216688 abstract "Domestic and international terror threats have become a growing concern in parallel with the development of advanced technology. Military and security forces worldwide also equipped themselves with high-strength protective armors to protect them from those threats. Body armor shields an individual from sudden impact energy. To secure better protection and reduce armor weight for comfort in use but economical at the same time, the introduction of new materials and the development of existing technology are big challenges. Properties of the required protective armors can be maintained and improved by varying the combination of developed materials and processing techniques. A material should possess certain mechanical properties to absorb multi-hit and maintain ballistic performance. Ceramics of varying compounds and compositions are aligned with these specific requirements and are popularly used as armor material. Body armors are produced by considering many factors like threat level, multi-hit performance, environmental conditions, space limitations, manufacturing challenges, cost and weight limitations, physical properties of facing and backing materials, and overall ballistic performance of the system. This article highlights the required properties of armor materials, the selection of materials especially alumina composites for lightweight protective structure, and their fabrication techniques based on the state-of-the-art review." @default.
