• W4313352249 abstract "Biogas is a clean and renewable form of energy generated by anaerobic digestion (AD) that can be used as an alternative fuel (cooking, heating and electricity) to a conventional source of energy from fossil fuel. Pre-determinant factors of the process include feedstock type; reactor design and operational parameters such as pH, carbon-to-nitrogen ratio (C/N) and biomass loading rate. In recent years, there is vast amount of interest to produced biogas from poultry farm such as chicken farm. The manure from chicken sometimes combined with other type of organic waste to boost the biogas production and to improve the quality of the digestate for agricultural application. This chapter reviewed the biogas production including the type of the common feedstock that normally used. Each type of feedstock has different capability in boosting the biogas production and the most favoured is from food waste as it contains most of the organic matter that can be easily degraded by the microorganism and increase the biogas yield. The optimised parameters affecting the anaerobic digestion process were described and found that C/N ratio is optimum in range of 20–30, retention time is around 15–60 days, the pH is stable in neutral condition (6–7), and the smaller particle size is better for biogas production. The technical trends of biogas generation have been reviewed and discovered to become widely applied across the countries and more develop in terms of larger size of biogas reactor and electricity generation up to 300 MW per year.
