This chapter deals with informal marketing as an important source of sustaining the livelihood of poor, migrants and women as marginal communities living particularly in the valley’s slum areas. Based on minimum income from informal trading, they sustain their basic needs such as food, health, children’s education and others, but their occupation is often vulnerable due to insecurity at the marketing places caused by municipal authorities and the police. It is argued that as this sector has solved the unemployment problem among the urban poor to a large extent, better management of the informal market places and marketing systems should be a priority in the policy and planning of the valley’s municipal governments." @default.
