- W4313374013 abstract "Biological factors play a significant role in the interpretation of a particular coastal environment along the coasts of the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. Activities of tidal fauna in the intertidal zones of the beaches along the coastal stretches of India develop micro-morphological features, which are very much significant for the trapping of sediments. In such beach zones, foraminifera and mollusks may be considered as important environmental indicators. Among a number of foraminiferal species that occurred in the coastal tract of peninsular India, Ammonia sp found maximum at beach sands. Coastal sand flats and mudflats are enriched with the occurrences of numerous benthic dwellers. Among benthic molluscan communities, Polinices turridus and Amalda ampla, found in the intertidal zone along the coastlines of peninsular India are also considered as the biological indicators for beach erosion. All these micro- and macroinvertebrates are environment-sensitive taxa and act as pollution indicators. Pollution at the sediment–water interface of the coastal zone is the result of the trash thrown by the local inhabitants and beach visitors. In such polluted coastal environments, Ammonia sp., an abundantly occurring foraminifera in the east coast of India, is depleting at present in the beach sands as because the coastal waters of Bakkhali-Fraserganj, Digha-Shankarpur, and Ganga Sagar are inundated twice daily by the polluted waters of the coasts." @default.
