Географические, политические, этнические и конфессиональные черты региона и его южного транграничья в сочетании со складывавшейся в британской общественно-политической среде историко-культурной традицией ориентализма нашли свои отражения в формировании картографического образа Центральной Азии и ее южных «рубежей», что, в свою очередь, влияло на восприятие происходивших там событий британским политикумом. Since the 1820s, Central Asia and its southern transboundary areas were of strategic importance to the British Empire in terms of ensuring the security of its Indian possessions. The so-called Great Game, that is, the confrontation between the British and Russian empires, that unfolded since that time in an acute form, determined the close attention of British socio-political circles to the Central Asian region‘s positioning in the system of international relations and created the basis for a systematic study of both Central Asia itself, which territory was to be determined, and its southern neighbors, i.e. Persia and Afghanistan, acting as military and political buffer to the Russian Empire advance to the south. Geographical, political, ethnic, and confessional characteristics of the region and its southern transboundary areas, in combination with the historical and cultural tradition of Orientalism that developed in the British socio-political environment, found their reflection in cartographic image of Central Asia and its southern frontiers, which, in turn, influenced the perception of events there by British politicians." @default.
